After the Redmi 4A launch in March, Xiaomi is set to launch another Redmi smartphone in India. The phone that’s coming to India in the days to come probably within this month should be the Xiaomi Redmi 4. To recall, Xiaomi had — at its last product launch — confirmed that successor to the Redmi 3S and Redmi 3S Prime, which is the Redmi 4, would be coming to India soon.

After announcing the Redmi Note 4 and Redmi 4A earlier this year, Xiaomi is gearing up for another launch of a Redmi device soon. Xiaomi India’s co-founder Manu Kumar Jain today posted on twitter that the company will be soon launching a new Redmi smartphone soon and we are anticipating that it will be  Redmi 4. The tweet holds no information on the device name or the timeline for the phone launch; however Xiaomi has shared an image which has the night skyline in the background, and the tagline ‘Power in your hands’. Furthermore, Xiaomi India’s VP Manu Jain also tweeted that this would be the second biggest announcement this month. This means that the Redmi 4 and Redmi 4 Prime would be announced before the end of this month only. The first announcement was that of the Mi Home store launch in Bengaluru – Xiaomi’s first in India.

In March, Xiaomi had confirmed that it would launch successors to the Redmi 3s and Redmi 3s Prime in the country. The successor Redmi 4 and Redmi 4 Prime was launched in China in November last year, and it’s only fitting that it brings the said smartphone to India. This announcement comes at a time when the entry-level Redmi smartphone in the country, the Redmi 4A is scarcely available to buy due to limited stocks.

The Redmi 4 is priced at CNY 699 (roughly Rs. 6,900), while the Redmi 4 Prime was launched at CNY 899 (roughly Rs. 8,900). But hope that the device is likely to be priced below Rs 10,000 in India.

To recap on the specifications, the Redmi 4 bears a 5-inch HD (720×1280 pixels) display, an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC, 2GB of RAM, 13-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel camera, 16GB of inbuilt storage, and a 4100mAh battery. In comparison, the Redmi 4 Prime sports a 5-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) display, a 2GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of inbuilt storage, and Bluetooth v4.2 connectivity. Apart from this, all other specifications match the Redmi 4. Both the smartphones run on MIUI 8 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Besides, the smartphone offers Hybrid Dual SIM, 4G with VoLTE, WiFi (802.11 a/b/g/n), GPS, Bluetooth 4.1, and a microUSB port. The handset measures 141.3 x 69.6 x 8.9mm and weighs around 156 grams.

Xiaomi continues focus on low-end market

Xiaomi’s new phone launch will tie up well with its business strategy that it seemingly adopted in the middle of last year. Since launching the high-end Mi 5, the company hasn’t brought any of its high-end phones to India. Instead, it has relied on the Redmi phones to woo Indian consumers. Since launching the Mi 5, the company has launched a number of high-end phones in China. The list includes the Mi 5S, Mi Note phones and the exotic Mi Mix. None of these phones made it to India.

Xiaomi is also not bringing the Mi 6, its latest flagship phone to India. Instead it is bringing the Redmi 4. Earlier India Today Tech had exclusively reported that Xiaomi will not bring the Mi 6 to India, at least not in the near future. Xiaomi so far has refused to confirm or deny the report.
