Amazon India is holding an event on Wednesday where it is expected to announce the Amazon Fire TV Stick. Given the rise of online streaming in the country thanks to the likes of Hotstar, Netflix and the recently launched Prime Video, Amazon is looking to cash in by bringing its Fire TV Stick to the Indian market.

Amazon’s Fire TV Stick is essentially and pen drive-like device that turns any old TV into a smart TV. It competes directly against streaming products like Chromecast and Apple TV, among others. It is one of the more budget streaming media players out there that lets you stream content from apps like Prime Video, Netflix and YouTube, among others. Amazon in December last year launched its Prime Video streaming service in India, which is included as part of Amazon Prime membership that costs Rs. 499 per year, and the Fire TV Stick will be the ‘official’ way of watching all that content on your big screen TV.
