The National Cadet Corps (NCC) Republic Day Camp 2024 is off to a vibrant start, promising a month of enriching experiences for cadets from all corners of India. Held at the prestigious Cariappa Parade Ground in Delhi Cantt, the camp commenced on December 30, 2023, with a traditional Sarva Dharma Puja (prayer ceremony for all faiths), setting the tone for a diverse and inclusive gathering.
This year’s camp breaks new ground with an impressive participant count of 2,274 cadets, representing all 28 states and eight union territories of India. Notably, 907 of these participants are girls, marking the highest female participation in the camp’s history. This surge in female cadetship reflects the NCC‘s dedication to empowering young women and fostering gender equality within its ranks.
Further emphasizing the spirit of unity and “Mini India”, the camp welcomes 122 cadets from Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, along with 171 from the North-Eastern Region. This diverse mix creates a microcosm of India, where cadets from different backgrounds come together to learn, share, and forge lasting bonds.
Adding an international flavor to the mix, the Republic Day Camp hosts cadets and officers from 25 friendly countries, including Argentina, Bhutan, Brazil, Czech Republic, Fiji, Kazakhstan, Kenya, and many more. This Youth Exchange Programme fosters cultural understanding and strengthens bonds between India and its diplomatic allies.
National Cadet Corps (NCC): A Platform for Growth and Leadership
Beyond numbers, the Republic Day Camp holds immense significance for its role in shaping young minds and future leaders. In his opening address, Director General of NCC, Lt. Gen. Gurbirpal Singh, emphasized the camp’s core objectives:
- Instilling patriotism: The camp activities cultivate a deep sense of love and respect for India, its rich heritage, and its diverse cultural tapestry.
- Nurturing discipline: Through military drill exercises and structured routines, cadets learn the importance of self-discipline, obedience, and punctuality.
- Developing leadership qualities: Opportunities for teamwork, public speaking, and taking initiative help cadets hone their leadership skills and prepare them to take on responsible roles in society.
The month-long camp offers a diverse range of activities, enriching cadets’ experiences beyond the realm of military training. Cultural performances, workshops, educational tours, and social service initiatives expose them to various aspects of Indian culture and tradition, while also encouraging them to contribute to their communities.
