The sands of Rajasthan, India, are witness to a new chapter in the burgeoning friendship between India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as the inaugural “Desert Cyclone” joint military exercise kicks off on January 2nd, 2024.
Building Bridges in the Desert:
This historic exercise sees contingents from both nations, 45 personnel each, come together to enhance interoperability in sub-conventional operations, specifically focusing on fighting in built-up areas (FIBUA) within the harsh desert/semi-desert terrain. The chosen scenario aligns with Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter on Peace Keeping Operations, reflecting the commitment of both nations to global security and stability.
Beyond Shared Tactics:
“Desert Cyclone” transcends mere tactical drills. Its aims extend to forging a collaborative partnership, fostering the exchange of best practices, and ultimately strengthening the bonds of friendship and trust between India and the UAE. The exercise will see joint operations like establishing a Joint Surveillance Centre, conducting cordon and search operations, mastering domination of built-up areas, and honing skills in heliborne operations.
These shared experiences pave the way for greater cooperation and interoperability between the two armed forces, not only in potential peacekeeping missions but also in ensuring regional stability and addressing shared security concerns.
A Flourishing Friendship:
“Desert Cyclone” is a testament to the evolving strategic partnership between India and the UAE. It underscores their shared commitment to regional security, stability, and prosperity. The exercise marks a significant step in strengthening bilateral relations and paves the way for future collaborations in diverse fields, further solidifying the deep bonds of friendship and mutual respect between the two nations.
