World’s Smallest Jelly Unihertz Smartphone Launched With 2GB Ram, Android 7.0 Nougat

Unihertz, a start-up based in China, has introduced Jelly on crowd funding Kickstarter, the world’s smallest 4G capable Android smartphone. In fact, the Jelly smartphone is so small that it can easily fit in your coin pocket.

The device is called Jelly, and the mini-sized smartphone supports Android 7.0 Nougat, dual-SIM (Nano+Nano), and 4G connectivity. At the time of writing, it had already seen over $125,000 pledged for its $30,000 goal, with 34 days to go.

It will be made available in Pearl White, Sky Blue, and Space Black colour options. It will be available in two RAM / Storage bundles.

The Jelly with 1GB RAM/ 8GB Storage is priced at $109 (roughly Rs. 6,900) and the Jelly Pro with 2GB RAM/16GB storage is priced at $125 (roughly Rs. 8,000). On KickStarter, the Jelly and Jelly Pro are priced at $59 (roughly Rs. 3,800) and $75 (roughly Rs. 4,800) respectively. The handset is said to feature a 2.45-inch (240×432 pixels)  TFT display with 201ppi pixel density alongside a 1.1GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage expandable via microSD card slot (up to 32GB).. The handset runs Android 7.0 Nougat and includes dual SIM slots. There’s also GPS for navigation and a gyroscope.

As for the camera, there is an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front sensor. The two SIM-slots support 4G. Interestingly this can support dual-Nano SIM cards, and has a fully replaceable battery with the company promising three days working time (for average usage) or upto seven days on standby. The battery size is 950 mAh.Connectivity options include GPS, Bluetooth v4.0, and Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n. Onboard sensors include Gyroscope, G-Sensor, and Compass, and dimensions of the Jelly are at 92.3x43x13.3mm.

The phone will give buyers access to the Google Play Store and all the apps that come with that. As well, the phone will be usable on GSM carriers, so you can take it just about anywhere excluding the CDMA companies.

As smartphones get larger and bezels get reduced, Unihertz has gone the opposite direction, in a bid to satiate the odd ones. The Jelly doesn’t look to compete with the Samsungs and Apples of the world. It looks to be a backup device, or your workout companion that you can use and take to places where you don’t want your premium smartphone to go.
