Chinese smartphone maker Vivo on Thursday launched yet another selfie focused smartphone called the V5s. Although it is said to be a successor to last year’s V5, the new handset comes with almost similar hardware. Vivo V5s selfie-focused smartphone in India, priced at Rs. 18,990.
The new Vivo smartphone will be available for pre-booking starting Thursday itself. It will go on its first sale on May 6, on which date the Matte Black colour variant will be available. The Crown Gold colour variant will only become available starting May 20.

The Vivo V5s gets a 5.5-inch Full-HD (1920 × 1080 pixels) 5 IPS display resolution display protected with Gorilla Glass with 2.5D Curved Glass, and a pixel density of 267ppi. . The V5 had a similar sized 720p display. Vivo V5s runs on Funtouch OS 3.0 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It features a fingerprint sensor on its home button.
On the inside, you get the same octa-core 64-bit MediaTek MT6750 processor clocked at 1.5 GHz along with a Mali T860 GPU. While the RAM is again 4 GB RAM the internal storage has been bumped up to 64 GB. Of course, there is a memory expansion slot which supports microSD cards of up to 256 GB. The only change from the Vivo V5 is that V5s will come with different design on the back. Unlike what we expected, there is no metal and the phone is still made of plastic like with the Vivo V5.
As for the cameras, We now come to the highlight of the selfie-focused Vivo V5s – its front camera. You get the same 13 MP sensor with phase detection and LED flash on the back and a 20 MP camera module on the front along with ‘Moonlight’ glow flash with an f/2.0 aperture, apart from the Face Beauty 6.0 app. It works quite like panoramic photography and enables the user to capture wide selfies.
Other features include a fingerprint scanner embedded in the home button, a ‘smart split 2.0’ hi-fi audio system powered by an AK4376 audio chip.
The V5s is essentially an upgrade from the camera-centric V5. Its metal unibody design, antenna bands at the top and a slightly protruding camera are some of the few traits Vivo has ‘borrowed’ from the iPhone 7.
Vivo V5S smartphone include 4G LTE, dual nano-SIM support, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.0, GPS, OTG support, microUSB 2.0 and a 3.5 mm audio jack. The device will run Marshmallow based Funtouch OS 3.0. Apart from other features, Vivo will offer two months of free subscription for Saavn Pro with Vivo V5s.
On the storage front, the Vivo V5s offers 64GB of inbuilt storage that’s expandable via microSD card (up to 256GB) in a hybrid dual-SIM (Micro+Nano) format. Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth v4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n/ac, Micro-USB with OTG, GPS/ A-GPS, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Sensors on board include accelerometer, ambient light sensor, digital compass, proximity sensor, and a virtual gyroscope. The Vivo V5s runs on 3000mAh non-removable battery, weighs 154 grams, and measures 153.8×75.5×7.55mm.
Vivo V5s will come in two colour variants with ‘Matte Black’ and the second one in ‘Crown Gold’. The ‘Matte Black’ variant will be available from 6 May 2017 with the ‘Crown Gold’ will be available from 20 May 2017.
