Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 Features
Xiaomi Mi Mix was a concept phone the company launched in 2016 with a full ceramic body, bezel-less display. The display had a 92 percent screen-to-body ratio and Xiaomi has removed a traditional speaker, proximity sensor, and shifted the front camera to the button. With Mi Mix 2, there are some changes, though overall this is a continuation of that bezel-less display design. Just like the Mi Mix, the Mi Mix 2 also comes with a full ceramic body and an outer frame that’s carved out of 7-series aluminium alloy. It comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 on the front and a 18K gold-plated camera rim that make it instantly stand out like a limited edition device.
The dual-SIM (Nano) Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 runs MIUI 9 based on Android 7.1 Nougat. The device sports a 5.99-inch full-HD+ 1080×2160 pixel LCD display, and is powered by a 2.45 GHz octa-core Snapdragon 835 64-bit processor along with Adreno 540 GPU that’s coupled with 6GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 128GB internal storage with a dual-SIM slot and support for a microSD for expandable storage. The Mi Mix 2 has a non-removable 3400 mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 technology.
The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 sports a 12-megapixel Sony IMX386 rear camera sensor with a large 1.25 um pixels, a dual-tone rear flash, 4-axis optical image stabilisation, 5-piece lens, a f/2.0 aperture, as well as a facial recognition feature with Phase Detection Autofocus, 4-axis OIS and a dual-LED (dual-tone) flash. It is capable of recording 4K videos as well. On the front, the Mi Mix 2 comes with a 5-megapixel camera. On the right of the lens is a dual LED flash and below it is a fingerprint scanner. On the front, it bears a 5-megapixel front camera, also with the facial recognition function that can be used to unlock the smartphone.
On the connectivity front, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 offers 4G with VoLTE, Bluetooth 5.0, WiFi (802.11 b/g/n), GPS with AGS/GLONASS, multi-function NFC and USB Type C. The phone has Fingerprint Scanner, Ambient Light Sensor, Proximity Sensor, E-compass, Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Hall Sensor and Barometer. Unfortunately the device lacks 3.5mm headphone jack but instead, the device will be shipped with a USB Type-C dongle. The handset measures 151.8 x 75.5 x 7.7m and weighs 185 grams.
As we mentioned, the biggest highlight of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 is its 5.99-inch bezel-less LCD display that has a full-HD+ resolution (1080×2160 pixels) in an 18:9 aspect ratio. The company says the display has a pixel density of 403 ppi and is complete with DCI-P3 colour gamut support. The smartphone has minimal bezels on three sides, with only a ‘bottom chin’ that sports the front camera and other sensors.
With no top bezel to house the earpiece, the company has decided to use a ‘hidden sound-guided speaker’ that resonates sound through the display and frame. The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 bears a ceramic body with a 7-Series aluminium frame and a 18K gold plated camera ring on the rear panel.
