Xperia XZ1 packs a 2700mAh battery that supports Quick Charge 3.0 technology. The smartphone is water and dust resistant with an IP68 certification. For audio, the smartphone comes with Hi-Res Audio, digital noise cancellation, S-Force surround sound, stereo recording, and Qualcomm’s own aptX audio software. The Xperia XZ1 will be available in Moonlit Blue, Venus Pink, Warm Silver, and Black colours. It measures 148x73x7.4mm and weighs 156 grams.
Motion Eye camera
Sony is really proud of the Sony Xperia XZ1 camera. The company claims the 19MP rear camera shows their expertise in camera technology with four ‘inventive’ features – 3D Creator, super slow-motion video, predictive capture and autofocus burst. However, the 19MP Exmor RS camera is where the smartphone earns the majority of its Rs 44,990 price tag. Not only is it capable of recording slow motion video at an astounding 960 frames per second (which works well, check out our Xperia XZ Premium review), it also comes with the ability to take 3D scans of objects, people and food. Sony has embedded fast memory right into the camera stack which allows the smartphone to capture slow-motion video at 960 frames per second, which is 4 times faster than what the iPhone is capable of (240 frames per second).
The Xperia XZ1 camera also comes with an aperture of f/2.3, predictive capture and the ability to shoot 4K video at normal speeds. The XZ1 starts to buffer images the moment it detects motion and selects four of the best shots by analysing the speed of the moving object. On the front, the smartphone has a 13MP wide-angle sensor with an aperture of f/2.0.
3D image scanning
The Xperia XZ1 is the first smartphone in the world that has a 3D Creator that lets you capture and print images in 3D. You can scan people, objects and food. According to Sony, it takes approximately 30 to 60 seconds to take a scan and there is no post-processing involved. The smartphone’s 19MP rear camera can scan an object and save the file as a 3D image after which you can share the file on social media or even print it via a 3D printer.
There is a 3D Creator tool on board the Sony Xperia XZ1 which blends 3D capture with augmented reality. Applications range from recreation to in-game avatars. In supported games, it can be used to overlay 3D scans on characters. Sony says you can become a ‘player in the game’ with the Xperia XZ1’s 3D scanning capabilities.
IP68 dust and water resistance
Continuing the Xperia line of smartphone’s proud lineage, the XZ1 is also IP68 dust and water resistant. This means that the phone can be submerged underwater for up to 30 minutes at depths of up to 1.5 metres. So you do not need to worry while using the XZ1 in the rain or around the pool. Accidentally dunk your phone underwater? That’s cool too.
Multimedia capabilities
The Sony Xperia XZ1 comes with a host of multimedia features on board. The phone comes with stereo speakers with Sony’s S-Force Front Surround, which the company claims deliver 50 percent more sound pressure than previous Xperia models.
The XZ1 comes with Sony technologies like Clear Audio + and DSEE HX. The DSEE HX Digital Sound Enhancement Engine upscales low quality compressed music files to near ‘high-resolution audio’. It also comes with Digital Noise Cancelling (DNC) which when paired with DNC headphones reduced exterior noise by up to 98 percent.
On the connectivity front, the Sony XZ1 supports 4G VoLTE, NFC, Dual-band MIMO Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0 It comes with USB Type-C port for charging and data transfer and a 3.5mm headphone jack which is fast becoming a rarity in today’s world.
