Xiaomi has launched its new Xiaomi Redmi Y1 and Xiaomi Redmi Y1 Lite smartphones as the first members of its new Redmi Y-series. The main highlight of the Redmi Y1 is its 16-megapixel front camera, complete with a LED selfie light, while Redmi Y1 Lite is similar to its sibling in specifications but features a 5-megapixel camera in front, and looks like a rebranded Redmi Note 5A. The selfie-focused Y-series will start at a price of Rs 8,999 for Redmi Y1 with 3GB RAM and 32 GB storage, while the 4GB RAM and 64GB version will cost Rs 10,999. The Redmi Y1 Lite will be priced at Rs 6,999, though this one has a regular 5MP front camera. Both phones will be available on Amazon India and Mi.com starting November 8. Xiaomi has also announced MIUI 9 for its smartphones in India.
Xiaomi also announced the availability of the MIUI 9 Global ROM – early November for Redmi Note 4, Mi MIX 2, and Mi Max 2, with other smartphones set to get it by end of the month.

Xiaomi Redmi Y1, Y1 Lite Price in India
Xiaomi Redmi Y1 price in India is Rs. 8,999 for the variant with 32GB storage and 3GB RAM. There’s another variant of the phone, with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, priced at Rs. 10,999.
As for the Redmi Y1 Lite, the phone comes in only one configuration with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage and is priced at Rs. 6,999. Both handsets will be available via Amazon India and will go on sale via Amazon and Mi.com on November 8. After that, the handsets will be available via offline stores as well.
Xiaomi Redmi Y1 specifications
The Xiaomi Redmi Y1’s biggest highlight, as we mentioned, is its 16-megapixel front camera. This comes with an LED selfie-light, for better selfies in low light conditions. The company is also touting the Beautify 3.0 feature on it, which helps beautify selfie photos. It bears a fingerprint sensor on the rear panel. The new phone has been launched in Gold and Dark Grey colour variants.
The dual-SIM Xiaomi Redmi Y1 runs MIUI 9, and sports a 5.5-inch HD (720×1280 pixels) display with Corning Gorilla Glass. It is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 435 SoC, coupled with 3GB of RAM. The smartphone bears a 13-megapixel camera with PDAF and dual-LED flash.
There is 32GB of inbuilt storage on the Xiaomi Redmi Y1, which is expandable via microSD card (up to 128GB) with its own dedicated card slot. It has standard connectivity options, including 4G VoLTE. It is powered by a 3080mAh battery. It weighs 153 grams and measures 153×76.2×7.7mm

Redmi Y1 Lite also has a 5.5-inch HD display but is powered by the 1.4GHz quad-core Snapdragon 425 processor and comes with 2GB RAM and 16GB storage. The phone has a 3080 mAh battery with a 13 MP rear camera with LED flash and PDAF and a dedicated SIM slot as well. The front camera is 5MP on this smartphone. Both smartphones support up to 128GB storage via the microSD slot and it features an IR blaster as well.

MIUI 9 Features
Key features of MIUI 9 are notifications which are closer to stock Android. Notifications now support multiple styles, bundled notifications and quick replies. Split screen is another new feature and it will allow users to switch the position of the apps in a single step. MIUI 9 also comes with animated Icons for apps like Phone, MI community etc.
The new UI also comes with Smart Photo editing feature which will let users erase objects from photos. App Vault is another feature, which will have shortcuts for some apps like Ola, Paytm etc. The feature can be accessed by swiping right from home screen.
Mi Drop is now no longer part of settings and has its own app with a new logo and simpler UI. The app will also be available on Google Play Store for non-Xiaomi smartphones as well from November 16. India customisations for MIUI 9 include IRCTC card, which will now show in the SMS app when users receive a message. Xiaomi has also integrated the Panchang calendar into their native calendar app to showcase holidays, festivals, etc in India.
MIUI 9 in India also come with stickers which will let users add some extra elements to their photos. The stable build for MIUI 9 will be available for Redmi Note 4, Mi Mix 2 and Mi Max 2 from tomorrow, while the beta build is available for most Xiaomi phones.
