THE LONG AWAITED Apple iPhone X is official, with the firm unveiling the 10th-anniversary device at its much-hyped Apple Event on Tuesday. The iPhone X (pronounced iPhone 10) is the company’s first smartphone to feature a full-screen display, as it sets its sights on the likes of the Galaxy Note 8. There’s also an all-new ‘Super Retina’ resolution, a reinforced glass design, and support for wireless charging, with the iPhone X arriving with support for the Qi charging standard. The smartphone has a screen that wraps all the way around the front of the smartphone, an all-new display technology, Face ID and more. The iPhone X marks the tenth-anniversary of the original iPhone, which was launched way back in 2007.

Apple iPhone X India Release

Apple iPhone X price in India is Rs 89,000 for the 64GB variant, while the 256GB version will cost Rs 102,000. While iPhone 8 models will be available from September 22, those looking forward to the iPhone X release will have to wait until November 3. Pre-orders, however, in the country will start on October 27. This makes the iPhone X launch date in India part of the first phase rollout, which is interesting as the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus India release is part of the second phase.

The iPhone X price in India is on top of every fan’s mind in the country as it will become the first mainstream to breach the Rs. 1-lakh barrier when it launches. Priced in India at Rs. 1,02,000 for iPhone X 256GB variant, this price beats even the iPhone 7 Plus’ Rs. 92,000 launch price tag announced last year. Of course, for this price, Apple is giving fans several new features never seen before on iPhones, such as the bezel-less display, OLED panel, Face ID facial recognition system, and wireless charging, among others. Even the 64GB variant of the iPhone X – which is the new Apple flagship, positioned above the new iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus – will cost a hefty Rs. 89,000, though it does not come close to the Rs. 1 lakh mark.

If we talk about the iPhone X price in the US, Apple’s home market, the 64GB and 256GB variants are priced at $999 (roughly Rs. 64,000) and $1,149 (roughly Rs. 73,600).

Apple iPhone X Design, Display

2017 is a major year for the iPhone, as Apple has made significantly changed the overall appearance of the iPhone compared to what we saw in the past couple of years. The last big change happened in 2014 when Apple launched the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, featuring bigger displays.

The Apple iPhone X looks like no other phone. It doesn’t even look like an iPhone. On the front, it’s screen head to foot, save for a small trapezoidal notch taken out of the top where Apple put selfie cameras and sensors. Otherwise, the bezel around the edge of the phone has been whittled to near-nonexistence and the home button disappeared—all screen and nothing else. The case is made of glass and stainless steel, like the much-loved iPhone 4.

The screen itself, called a Super Retina Display, is a 1125×2436 OLED display reportedly made by Samsung. It’s the first time Apple’s used OLED tech in an iPhone, and it offers some big advantages. On a normal LCD screen, even black pixels are lit up a bit, which means you’re never seeing true black—just really dark gray. OLED, on the other hand, can light some pixels but not others, which means black pixels just stay off. Your dark colors will seem much darker, other colors even richer, and even text becomes more pleasant to read. Apple’s also incorporated its TrueTone technology for white-balancing the screen in different conditions, which should make everything look even better.

Since there’s no room for the home button on the front, a bunch of the feature’s functions has been moved to the power button, which Apple’s apparently called the “side button” now. Long-press it for Siri, double click for Apple Pay. There’s still a little tactility in this phone, even as it becomes little more than a pane of glass.

Even with the huge screen, the iPhone X more closely resembles the iPhone 7. The iPhone’s screen-to-size ratio was always one of the smallest in the industry, thanks to the home button and Apple’s undying love for design symmetry. Getting rid of the home button allowed Jony Ive’s design team to get rid of so much more—just imagine your iPhone 7, but everywhere there’s metal, imagine screen. That’s the iPhone X.

iPhone X specifications, features

The first thing you notice on the iPhone X is a near bezel-less display on the front side. It is larger than ever at 5.8-inch. There is a notch on the top, but the company has pushed the screen resolution to 1125×2436 pixels, more than any previous generation iPhone models, and calls it the Super Retina HD Display.

The iPhone X is the future of smartphones, the executives said. Apple is doing away with the Touch ID, the fingerprint scanner embedded with Home Button that it introduced with iPhone 5s model. The iPhone X hosts a range of sensors including flood illuminator, infrared camera, front camera, and dot projector to allow customers to unlock the iPhone X by just looking at it – a system called Face ID.

Apple iPhone X Face ID

Instead, Apple iPhone X uses something called Face ID, which recognizes the owner’s face to unlock the device. Apple claims the new technique will “learn your face” with the True Depth camera system. The company has added a bunch of hardware on the front, including a dot projector, infrared camera, and flood illuminator, all of which is powered by the A11 Bionic chip on the iPhone X.

Apple said that there’s a one in a million chance that another person could unlock someone’s iPhone X with Face ID. Plus, users can still unlock the phone using a traditional passcode.

The company is also claiming the Face ID can’t be fooled by 3D masks of the face or even with a picture of the user’s face. It also says the feature will work in the dark as well. Apple adds that all facial information is saved on the device itself and the processing is done on-device and no requests are sent to cloud servers. This is to ensure greater user privacy.

“Face ID only unlocks iPhone X when customers look at it and is designed to prevent spoofing by photos or masks,” says Apple.

Apple iPhone X A11 Bionic Processor

Apple’s flagship iPhone X is powered by the company’s A11 Bionic processor with a new Neural Engine. Apple’s new chip has six-core with four efficiency cores, and the company claims this is “the most powerful and smartest chip ever in a smartphone.”

There’s also a new second-generation performance controller, which can utilize all six cores simultaneously for better performance workload. It also has an Apple-designed GPU with a three-core design for better graphics, improved experience on AR apps, and for 3D games. The neural engine has a “dual-core design” and is designed to carry out the more heavy duty AI, machine learning stuff, which is around Face ID, Animoji, etc. Apple claims the neural engine can perform up to 600 billion operations per second for real-time processing.

The iPhone X has Dual Camera 12 MP image sensors, comprising a f/1.8 aperture wide-angle and a f/2.4 aperture telephoto lens. Both the cameras have optical image stabilization along with a Quad-LED True Tone flash. Also, there’s a 7MP TrueDepth front-facing camera with support for Apple’s Portrait mode for selfies.

iPhone X also has a new Apple-designed image signal processor (ISP) for more “advanced pixel processing, wide color capture, faster autofocus in low light and better HDR photos,” says the company. The ISP can also do real-time lighting estimation.

The camera is also geared for the AR experience, which will be a big part of iOS 11. Apple says both the cameras are “individually calibrated, with new gyroscopes and accelerometers for accurate motion tracking.” In AR games, where accurate motion tracking is required, all of this will help, claims Apple. Once again, the A11 Bionic CPU will step in to deal with “world tracking, scene recognition,” etc for AR. On the video side, the rear camera delivers better video stabilization, 4K video up to 60fps and 1080p slo-mo up to 240fps.

Apple’s iPhone X also has the Portrait mode with Portrait Lighting on both the front and rear cameras. The Portrait Lighting mode is still in beta and allows users to add studio lighting effects to iPhone pictures in Portrait mode.

Apple iPhone X Battery

Apple claims the battery on the iPhone X will last 2 hours longer than the iPhone 7. So yes, once again Apple has not given an exact number and iPhone is not really known for a strong battery life. Just like the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, the X also supports Qi wireless charging.
