Chinese smartphone giant Huawei sub-brand Honor finally launched its Honor 8 Pro smartphone in India on Thursday at a price of Rs. 29,999. Along with Honor 8 Pro, Honor also announces another product – a new fitness band called the Honor Band 3. The Honor Band 3 is a water-resistant fitness wearable that comes with heart rate sensor with continuous monitoring. The fitness band will be available for purchase later this month, and buyers will be able to choose from three colour options — dynamic orange, navy blue and carbon black. It will be available exclusively via Amazon India. Though Honor hasn’t revealed the price for the Band 3, globally it is priced at $60 (Rs 3,900 approximately).
Honor Band 3 Features
The Honor Band 3 sports a design very similar to most of the Fitbit bands. The Honor Band 3 was first launched in China, and its first global appearance took place in Berlin at the Honor 9 launch event. It has a 0.9-inch (128×32 pixel) vertical POLED display that shows data related to heart rate monitoring, workout sessions, running, cycling activities, and smartphone notifications as well. Its strap is 16mm wide, that’s made of thermoplastic polyurethane. Like most fitness trackers, the Honor Band 3 will monitor your sleep schedule patterns, steps, calories, distance and running as well. One can also view their smartphone notifications on the fitness band itself. In addition, it packs in an infrared sensor, pedometer, and a 3-axis accelerometer to map real-time data of your sleep schedule patterns, walking steps, calories, distance, and running. All this data can also be accessed on the smartphone via Honor’s app.
The Honor Band 3 has a 0.91-inch black and white screen on the front and a flexible rubber wristband designed to be used while exercising. There is a single button below the display which is used to navigate around the interface.
The Honor Band 3 also comes with a modicum of smartwatch functionality – it can display notifications from your smartphone on its monochrome display. It also supports alarms. The Honor Band 3 is compatible with Android OS versions 4.4 and above, and iOS 8 and above. Another area where the watch excels, at least on paper, is battery life. It is powered by a 105mAh battery that is rated to last up to 30 days on a single charge, as claimed by the company. However, with the heart rate scanner continuously on, that figure drops down to 10 days.
The headlining feature of the band is the fact that it comes with 5ATM water resistance – which means you can take it to a depth of up to 50 meters underwater without worrying about damaging the device. As a result, the device can also be used while swimming.
As for the connectivity, the Honor Band 3 comes with Bluetooth v4.2 LE that will enable pairing with the smartphones running Android 4.4 or higher and iOS 8 or later. The fitness band is also water-resistant up to 50 metres and 5 atmospheric pressure under the water. This property enables a new feature called the swimming mode that will track swim time and calories burnt in the activity.
